The Good Medicine of Confidentiality
Hilary looks at the standard practice of confidentiality in healthcare. Taking on a wider view of the human heart, is it possibly that we have always needed a sacred space to unburden our pain. Is healthcare the new confessional? Can we bring the “is it kind?”rule into the process of transferring accurate information from one health source to another? What does it mean to be truly accountable as termed in the HIPAA legislation of 1996. And most importantly, how can the act of confession and the power of confidentiality hold a key to healing whatever our wounds, illness, pain, or disease may need?
